| Experience the power of steam locomotives through the dramatic photographs of O. Winston Link (1914-2001), America’s premier photographer of steam railroading. From 1955-1960, the waning days of steam railroading, Link made twenty trips to Norfolk & Western Railway tracks in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina, producing 2,400 images, using a Graphic View Camera. Among Link’s innovations was his solution to the problem of lighting, for as he once said, “You can’t move the sun, and you can’t move the tracks.” He custom built his own flash equipment required for the large-scale photos he preferred to shoot at night. Bridges figure prominently in Link’s photographs and also are the subject of Terry Miller’s pencil drawings, comprising a complementary and equally fascinating exhibition. www.lywam.org |
