WACVB WORKS ON TOURISM LEGISLATION WACVB has been supportive of several bills this legislative session. The association looks forward to passage of AB 465/SB 279 which allows attractions within 30 miles of designated highways to have the opportunity to apply for placement on specific information signs. The current limit is five miles. WACVB also supports SB 150 which implements a statewide smoking ban in hopes that it can level the playing field on smoking ordinances across the state.
WACVB opposes AB 585 because it would remove the September 1st school start date requirement. WACVB believes current law is working well for families and for high school students working in tourism jobs during the summer months. The law also offers school districts flexibility in how they set the school calendar. WACVB also opposes SB 130 which would raise the minimum wage to $7.25/hour plus index it to the rate of inflation. The association opposes the indexing component of the bill.
WACVB SUPPORTS DEPT. OF TOURISM'S BRANDING INITIATIVE WACVB is anxiously awaiting Governor Jim Doyle's unveiling of the Wisconsin Department of Tourism's new brand position for Wisconsin. The Governor is expected to unveil the brand position at the Governor's Conference on Tourism March 4 in Lake Geneva.
Many WACVB members have been working on the Wisconsin brand initiative process and expect the final result to be an important springboard to more effectively marketing Wisconsin tourism as well as other sectors of Wisconsin's economy.
