The Wisconsin Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus (WACVB) today presented the 2010 Wisconsin Tourism Trailblazer award to the Fox Cities CVB and the Oneida County Tourism Commission for outstanding marketing and partnership projects.

WACVB presents the Wisconsin Tourism Trailblazers awards each year at the WI Fall Tourism Convention in an effort to increase the visibility of Wisconsin’s tourism industry and destination marketing organizations.  The awards recognize Wisconsin tourism organizations for outstanding marketing and partnership efforts.

The Fox Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau received the Trailblazer Award in the outstanding partnership category for the Fox Cities Wayfinding Signage program.   In 2004, the CVB hired “secret shoppers” to travel to the Fox Cities and report back about their first-time visitor experience.  One thing the CVB learned was that there was a lack of cohesive signage directing people to attractions.   The CVB brought the issue to the area municipalities and together they created a Signage Task Force to plan and fund a signage program.   After years of collaboration, the Fox Cities signage project came to fruition in the last year with the installation of 100 signs.

The Oneida County Tourism Commission received the Trailblazer Award in the marketing and communication category for the 2010 Artists Interactive campaign.  The campaign’s goal was to promote spring travel to the Northwoods during the difficult spring shoulder season by organizing interactive events at artist venues throughout Oneida, Price and Vilas counties.  More than 57 Northwoods artists participated in the 2010 program and an estimated 4,675 attending the many activities.  The 2010 Artists Interactive campaign generated an estimated economic impact of over $209,000.

Wisconsin Department of Tourism Secretary Kelli Trumble joined WACVB in presenting the award during WACVB’s 2010 Wisconsin Fall Tourism Convention in Manitowoc.  WACVB represents Wisconsin's top destination marketing organizations and initiates cooperative ventures that enhance the state's tourism industry.
