Kubb United, Beloit Parks and Leisure Services, and Visit Beloit To Host Second Annual U.S. Kubb Open in Riverside Park

BELOIT, Wis. (June 16, 2017) Beloit is ready to welcome the Kubb community to the banks of the Rock River in beautiful Riverside Park for the fourth consecutive year for the second annual U.S. Kubb Open. The inaugural event drew 42 teams from six states and featured the largest cash payout for a Kubb tournament in United States history with over $1,200 awarded. The event has doubled in size since the first tournament in 2014 and organizers expect that trend to continue this year and hope to become the second Kubb event in the U.S. to draw more than 64 teams.

The tournament will take place on Saturday, August 5, 2017. Kubb United, Beloit Parks and Leisure Services, and Visit Beloit are proud to host the only major Kubb event in the United States open to teams comprised entirely of competitors from outside the country. After drawing competitors from as far away as New York in 2016, organizers hope that 2017 attracts some of the top teams in both the United States and beyond. The event will also feature a Rock, Paper, Scissors tournament which has been a staple of the Beloit event since its inception.

The event is being organized by some of the top Kubb players in the country, all of which are excited to return to the picturesque setting of Riverside Park in Beloit. "Beloit is a great partner for the US Kubb Open because of the cooperation from the city that we experienced over the last three years, "stated tournament co-organizer and 2015 Rock, Paper, Kubb Champion, Evan Fitzgerald. Fellow organizer, Darren Finger, of Waukesha, WI added, "The park is a great setting for a Kubb tournament and the support we are getting from Visit Beloit and Beloit Parks and Leisure Services is awesome."

"We have seen our Kubb event grow substantially the past three years, and I fully expect 2017 to be more of the same and hope that our registration becomes the second largest in United States history," said Matthew Bosen, Director of Sales and Servicing at Visit Beloit.
